Earn money on your flight home: carrying for others, safely

Most people fly back with space in their suitcase and a list of things for friends. On Hashiruu, people post what they need from where you are flying from, with a price. You choose what to carry.

How it works

  1. 1. Post your trip. Route, dates and spare kilos. People who need something from there can send you their request.
  2. 2. Pick what to carry and make an offer. You set your price. Only offer on what you are happy to buy and carry.
  3. 3. Wait until it's paid. The requester pays into Stripe escrow when they hire you. Don't shop until the task shows as paid.
  4. 4. Buy, carry, hand over. Buy new, sealed items in a shop. Meet the requester and hand them over.
  5. 5. Get paid. Money is released when they confirm, or automatically 7 days after funding if they don't respond.

What you earn

Agreed price 40. The requester pays 42. You receive 38. The fee is 5% each side, in whatever currency the task uses.

You connect Stripe once from your dashboard to receive payouts.

Carry safely

  • Never carry a closed parcel for anyone. Buy every item yourself, new and sealed.
  • Check the import rules of the country you land in. Food rules are strict in many countries, especially for meat and dairy.
  • Know your duty-free allowance. If the items take you over it, declare them and agree beforehand who pays the tax.
  • Keep receipts. They help at customs and if there is a dispute.
  • Meet in a public place for the handover.

Questions

Do I pay for the items myself?

You buy them, but only after the requester has paid into escrow. Don't shop until the task shows as paid. The agreed price should cover the items and your time.

When do I get paid?

When the requester confirms they have the item. If they don't respond, the payment is released automatically 7 days after it was funded. You receive the agreed price minus 5%.

Is there insurance?

There's no insurance. Escrow and disputes protect the payment.

What should I never carry?

A closed parcel from anyone, anything you did not buy yourself, and anything the country you land in does not allow. Buy new, sealed shop items only.

Do I need to declare the items?

Follow the customs rules of the country you land in. If you are unsure whether something counts toward your allowance, declare it. Agree beforehand who pays any tax.
